MWF34 Abberley Hill and Witley Court 18 May 2026

This scenic walk start from Great Witley Village Hall. We have a steep ascent up Abberley Hill followed by splendid views as we walk north-eastwards along the ridge. We then descend and ascend eastwards to have a break at St Peter’s Church in Astley. We then head south past Glasshampton monastery which was converted from a stable for the Anglican Franciscan order in 1918. Heading further south we cross the A443 and walk past Witley Court, with its lovely gardens, once one of the great country houses of England and, following a fire in 1937, now one of England’s most spectacular ruins run by English Heritage. Next door is Witley Parish Church, Britain’s finest baroque church, and worth a small detour. We then return to Great Witley Village Hall.

You’ll need a packed lunch, plenty to drink and suitable clothing and footwear for all weathers.
