Picking the right walk difficulty for you
All our Walking Festival walks are graded by difficulty according to the length and amount of ascents, gentle or steep. When selecting your walk, it is important to make sure that your fitness matches the level of difficulty of the walk. This table shows you what to expect from each of our levels of difficulty.
Walk Difficulty | Explanation |
Leisurely/gentle | A slow stroll |
Easy | Mainly flat with only short climbs that are not steep |
Moderate | Some ascents and descents and/or a distance requiring a normal level of fitness |
Hard | Some steep ascents or descents and/or of a distance requiring a good level of fitness |
Strenuous | Many steep ascents or descents and/or of a distance requiring a good level of fitness |
Trail | Long-distance walk over several consecutive days requiring a high level of fitness |
You will asked when making your booking to confirm that you are fit to undertake your walk. Please bear in mind the difficulty of the walk and your level of fitness. Dropping out of a walk is rarely possible and you should be able to complete the walk without holding your fellow walkers up.
