MWF42 British Camp Area – How Geology Shapes the Scenery 19 May 2026

The walk goes round the ramparts of British Camp, looking at the very different views to the east and west of the hills which are shaped by the very different geology and its structure. It visits Clutter’s Cave which was formed when submarine volcanoes erupted 566 million years ago in an island arc, in contrast to the main rock of the hills which cooled from molten magma deep in the Earth’s crust. On the return we see the effects of the East Malvern Fault which dropped the Severn Valley by 2.5 kilometres relative to the Malvern Hills.

There is a steep uphill section at the start of the walk which will be taken very slowly.
