MWF82 Eastnor and the Beacon, Saturday 3 June
We take the train from Colwall Station to Ledbury and walk back to Colwall.
From Ledbury Station we walk through the attractive Herefordshire town of Ledbury with its Market Cross and Church. We then pass through woods and along open field tracks to reach Eastnor Church.
From here the walk takes us through Eastnor Park and steeply uphill to an Obelisk. We now start the ascent of Hangman’s Hill and follow the ridge to Herefordshire Beacon, the highest point of the route at 338 metres, (1109 feet) where on a clear day there are views over the Cotswolds, the Clee Hills in Shropshire and towards the Bristol Channel.
We descend to British Camp car park where there are refreshments and toilets. A short steep descent takes us to the attractive hamlet of Evendine. From here field paths take us back to Colwall Station.
Apart from Herefordshire Beacon, which is popular with walkers, we are walking in more remote countryside in rural Herefordshire. Walking boots are needed on this walk, given steep and sometimes uneven paths; about 6 stiles.
Packed lunch and drinks required.
