MWF65 Geology of Hollybush and Ragged Stone Thurs 29 May 2025
The ancient Precambrian rocks of the Malvern Hills stand up above the surrounding countryside. This walk up and around Ragged Stone Hill, (with a diversion to Middle Hollybush Quarry) explores the Southern hills which have eastern and western summits separated by slightly younger rocks. We will see where the Cambrian sandstones overlie the crystalline Precambrian. From the top of Ragged Stone Hill, we will see the contrasting scenery in the Severn Valley and the ridges and valleys in Herefordshire. The topography is shaped by the underlying rock structure. 2 stiles.
There is a short uphill section followed by a steady climb, a couple of stiles have to be negotiated.
