MWF64 Hanley Castle Thurs 29 May 2025

A fascinating historical walk in and around the pretty village of Hanley Castle. Pass many interesting homes and learn about the people who lived in them, including a 17th century cottage occupied for more than 200 years by five generations of the same family and a pub whose landlords for more than 100 years have been three generations of another family; one of the oldest cottages in the parish, containing a beam proved to have been felled in the winter of 1457/58; a former vicarage and farm occupied in the mid-19th century by a gifted tenant farmer who won prizes for his livestock and designed a silver medal for the county agricultural society; and Severn End mansion, ancestral home of the Lechmere family since the 12th century.
